Dr Amio Matenga-Ikihele - Te Whānau-ā-Apanui, Niue

Amio is a digital health equity researcher, clinician, and systems leader whose work is reshaping how Pacific communities engage with health technology. She holds a PhD in Health Sciences from the University of Auckland, where she remains an Honorary Academic in the Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences. She is a Fellow of Health Informatics New Zealand, a co-founder and Strategic Lead (Digital Health & AI) at Moana Connect and holds governance roles with MedTechIQ Aotearoa and Tamaki Makaurau, and the SCI Advisory Group for the Centre for Medical Device Technology (CMDT).

Amio's work sits at the intersection of community health, nursing and health informatics, and Pacific-centred research. Her scholarship is grounded in a foundational question: how do digital health tools and AI serve, or fail, communities who need them most?
