Professor Alistair Knott

Ali has been an AI researcher for 30 years, mostly in compuational models of language and the brain. His current work is mostly on the social impacts of AI, and on AI regulation. He has advised the NZ government on many questions of AI policy: how to oversee uses of AI in the public sector and in healthcare; how to advance New Zealand's commitment to an international ban on autonomous weapons; how to advance thinking on AI's impact on jobs. Ali is also involved in international AI policy discussions, with a focus on EU tech regulation. He is active in discussions about the AI Act’s provisions on transparency for AI-generated content,  and about the Digital Services Act’s provisions for external researcher access to data from large tech platforms.
