Professor David McCormack

David McCormack is a UK trained cardiac surgeon, professor, and health system leader based in Aotearoa New Zealand. His work spans specialist clinical care, academic leadership, and strategic engagement across healthcare innovation, education, and research. He brings an international lens to the application of artificial intelligence and advanced technologies in healthcare, with a focus on clinically grounded, practical implementation. He is a member of Health New Zealand’s National AI and Algorithm Expert Advisory Group and the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons Advisory Group on AI in Surgery. His work is guided by a strong commitment to equity, particularly improving access and outcomes for rural, underserved, and Māori communities, and by strengthening the connection between clinical care, research, and the future health workforce.
