Biography
Dr Mohammed Mohammed is a Senior Lecturer in Clinical Pharmacy Practice at Waipapa Taumata Rau, the University of Auckland. His research sits at the intersection of digital health, health services and outcomes research, with a focus on improving the safety and appropriateness of medicines use. He brings together patient perspectives, routinely collected health data and advanced analytical methods to understand and reduce medication-related burden and associated harm, particularly among older adults and people living with multiple long-term conditions and complex medicine regimens. His work also examines how AI and other digital technologies can support medicines optimisation, personalised prescribing and deprescribing, and improve patient outcomes and quality of life.
Research Projects and Ideas
Mohammed leads an HRC-funded programme using AI to optimise medicines use in older adults. His research integrates rule-based systems, machine learning and retrieval-augmented generation. He leads a research team developing digital tools to assess treatment burden and regimen complexity, predict medication-related harm, and evaluate impacts on daily life and quality of life. The programme spans digital innovation, predictive modelling, clinical evaluation and translation into practice.
