Biography

I specialise in utilising Operations Research (OR), Analytics and AI to work with communities and organisations in developing intelligent systems to support decision making. This approach translates across many application areas including Healthcare. I have developed models for providing OR, Analytics & AI for healthcare systems including data-driven optimised rosters for General Medicine, optimal rostering and dispatch for Patient Transit, and simulation and optimisation for Surgery Scheduling. I co-create platforms for integrating and analysing data to better understand systems using OR, Analytics & AI. The platforms empower decision makers with an accessible virtual sandpit, e.g., digital twin, to “play” with potential solutions and see evidence of solution outcomes. I am interested in research or consulting work on practical OR, Analytics & AI in collaboration with healthcare services, communities and government.

Research Projects and Ideas

I am part of a team across the University of Auckland (UoA), Te Pūnaha Matatini (TPM), Health New Zealand-Te Whatu Ora that is working on an automated surgery scheduling prototype and pilot. I am part of another team across UoA, TPM and KPMG looking at creating whole hospital and/or whole region digital twins of healthcare services. I’m also working with colleagues on using AI to create privacy preserving synthetic datasets for innovation in digital health.

Collaborations and Skills

The network of colleagues I collaborate with have a wide range of skills including digital twin development, epidemic/pandemic modelling, complex systems research, digital healthcare deployment/delivery. My own personal skills range from mathematical models of healthcare delivery systems to simulation-based digital twins to mixed reality experiences. I have also contributed to COVID modelling previously.

Connections of interest

I am very interested in collaborations that aim to incubate digital health research and solutions from inception to implementation. I would like to see the excellent research and expertise in digital health and AI realise its potential for impact in our healthcare systems.
