Biography

I am a clinical pharmacist, pharmacoepidemiologist and Senior Lecturer in Clinical Pharmacy Practice at Waipapa Taumata Rau, University of Auckland. My research asks who is harmed by the medicines and health systems we use, and how data and technology can help prevent that harm.

My work spans population-based pharmacoepidemiology, AI-assisted clinical decision support and digital health. I use linked national health data to study medicine-related outcomes, particularly persistent opioid use, and develop clinically grounded AI tools that translate evidence into practice. This includes leading a LLM-assisted colonoscopy referral-triage programme and contributing to disease prediction using wearables.

Research Projects and Ideas

I lead GastroTriage, a funded programme developing and validating an LLM-assisted clinical decision-support tool for colonoscopy referral triage. The programme examines how generative AI can structure referral information, apply clinical guidelines and support prioritisation while retaining clinician oversight. Current work includes prospective validation, development of a clinician-consensus reference standard and translation into health-system workflows.

Collaborations and Skills

I bring together clinical pharmacy, pharmacoepidemiology and applied AI. My experience includes linked health data studies, clinical study design, LLM-based information extraction and decision support, prompt and system development, clinical reference standard construction, model evaluation, prospective validation, and research translation.
I also develop working prototypes and collaborate with clinicians, data scientists, health-system digital teams, community partners and industry.

Connections of interest

I am interested in collaborators working on the clinical validation and implementation of AI-assisted health tools, particularly in referral triage, medicine-related harm, and commercialisation of AI-based health tools for the likes of triage and other health logistic tasks.
