Biography

I am a Senior Lecturer and biomedical engineering researcher at Auckland University of Technology. My research focuses on wearable and non-invasive physiological sensing, biomedical signal processing, computational modelling and AI-enabled health monitoring.
I work with multimodal signals including bioimpedance, ECG, EEG, PPG and impedance cardiography. My AI interests include multimodal data fusion, explainable machine learning, physics-informed AI, probabilistic modelling and personalised physiological assessment.
My current health applications include cardiovascular monitoring, dementia and neurodegeneration, diabetic foot and chronic wound monitoring, and cardiometabolic health. I am particularly interested in developing AI systems that are clinically meaningful, physiologically grounded, robust to real-world variability and suitable for use in community and home settings.

Research Projects and Ideas

Current projects include arrhythmia-aware haemodynamic monitoring in heart failure, low-density wearable EEG for cognitive decline, and non-invasive sensing for diabetic-foot and wound assessment. Future work will develop uncertainty-aware, privacy-preserving and clinically validated models for longitudinal monitoring across home, community and hospital settings.

Collaborations and Skills

I seek collaborations with clinicians, community organisations, AI researchers and medtech partners for access to datasets, co-design and clinical validation. I can offer expertise in wearable sensing, bioimpedance, ECG, EEG, PPG, physiological modelling, multimodal signal analysis, prototype development, postgraduate supervision and joint funding applications.

Connections of interest

I am interested in connecting with researchers and clinicians in cardiovascular health, dementia, diabetes and wound care; experts in multimodal, explainable and physics-informed AI; Māori and Pacific health partners; groups with longitudinal clinical datasets; and collaborators in implementation, regulation, commercialisation and multicentre research.
