Biography

I am a general surgeon with 15 years of clinical experience in the United States and New Zealand currently practicing on the West Coast of the South Island. Over the past two years I have learned to build and ship AI tools that solve problems I encounter directly in clinical practice. My work centers on designing clinical AI systems end-to-end, from architecture and model selection through deployment, testing, and regulatory validation, with a particular focus on auditability and real-world usability rather than benchmark performance alone. My goal is to keep building clinically grounded, technically rigorous AI, informed equally by frontline surgical practice and hands-on engineering.

Research Projects and Ideas

AI-assisted colonoscopy triage system: LLM extraction with a deterministic rules engine for auditability; in a Health and Disability Ethics Committee-approved validation study collecting real patient data.

On-device clinical transcription: Endoscopy transcription and summarization using on-device open-weight models (Parakeet, Qwen3, Gemma 4) for data governance and low-connectivity deployment.

Broadly interested in building auditable, trustworthy AI.

Collaborations and Skills

Interested in collaborating on clinical AI projects involving workflow automation, clinical decision support, applied evaluation of AI systems, or anything else that makes the production and delivery of healthcare more efficient.

Connections of interest

Would love to connect with curious individuals and innovative organizations who want to work in clinical AI, workflow automation, clinical decision support, and model evaluation to build useful tools.
