Mike is an Assoc Prof in the Department of Engineering Science and Biomedical Engineering in the Faculty of Engineering and Design at Waipapa Taumata Rau | University of Auckland. He specialises in applying Operations Research (OR), Analytics, and AI to improve decision-making and system performance. His work in healthcare includes developing data-driven tools for optimised General Medicine rosters, efficient patient transport scheduling, and simulation and optimisation models for surgical planning. These intelligent systems enhance resource use, staff wellbeing, and patient outcomes. Mike also collaborates with healthcare organisations and communities to co-create digital platforms that integrate and analyse data, allowing decision-makers to explore potential solutions and predict outcomes. Mike's expertise extends to government, infrastructure, cloud systems, and working with communities, however a key focus is advancing practical, evidence-based OR, Analytics, and AI solutions that strengthen healthcare delivery and planning.
